GTZ/ Dornier Consult (Daimler Chrysler Services):
Groundwater Assessment Study with telemetric monitoring network in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi U.A.E. and the State of Qatar (1997-2004)
|
| In 1997 SEBA Hydrometrie was selected as the main contractor for the design and the installation of an monitoring network for the Consulting Consortium GTZ and Dornier Consult in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the State of Qatar BackgroundThe background of the project is that in countries with scarce water resources the availability of water is a key element for a long-term development. Steadily growing agricultural production requires the provision of increasing quantities of water for irrigation purposes. The assessment of water resources by means of exploration and monitoring as well as planning tools and water management must therefore be considered as integral parts of a comprehensive development process in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the State of Qatar. |
Project Development
The project was executed in three main parts.
The first part is the Groundwater Assessment Project in Abu Dhabi U.A.E. consisting of more than 200 stations equipped with hydrological and meteorological measuring equipment.
The second part of the project was the extension to an integrated telemetric monitoring network in U.A.E. and Qatar consisting of additional 43 stations for agro meteorological, hydro meteorological and hydrological purposes.
This network of 59 meteorological / hydrometeorological and 195 hydrological stations is equipped with:
- 57 MDS-Floater, sensor and data logger for water level measurement
- 55 MDS-3, 16 channel data logger for measurement recording
- 138 MDS-Insider, 2” data logger for data recording of water-level /-quality
- 4 RDS-M, data logger for digital memorization of rainfall tipping and data transmission
- 4 MODEM, for data transmission with phone line
- 52 GSM-MODEM, for data transmission with wireless GSM-Net
- 129 Pressure sensors DS 30, for water level measurement
- 206 Multiparametersensor MPS-D for measurement of water quality
- 27 Rain gauges RG 50, with impulse output for data loggers (without collecting jar)
- 4 Rain gauges RG 100, with impulse output for data loggers and stand housing
- 6 Air pressure sensors for measuring the atmospheric pressure
- 6 Combined humidity and temperature sensors for measuring
- 6 Wind speed sensors for measuring wind speed
- 6 Wind direction sensors for measuring wind direction
- 5 Solar radiation sensors for measuring the global radiation
- 16 Soil temperature sensors for measuring the soil temperature in different depths
- 3 Soil moisture sensor for measuring soil moisture
- 3 Evaporation pan for measuring evaporation
The installation and service for the whole Project is settled up by SEBA in close cooperation with the Customer and SEBA representatives at site. Training for technicians and software administrators is in minimum held once a year. Trouble shooting is supported by the SEBA engineers and software updates and services are done by remote access to the computer network in Abu Dhabi and Qatar from Kaufbeuren, Germany directly.
